Chronology of cameras Contessa-Nettel
Taking hold of a Piccolette for the first time often makes one think they've just discovered another Vest-Pocket Kodak (yet again). There's no doubt about it: the former clearly took "inspiration" from the latter. Even the circular trapdoor at the back is there. The only striking difference is the extension of the front plate by a fixed foot rather than a removable stand, as seen on Kodak cameras.
The Piccolette (or La Piccolette?) had a long career. It appeared in Photo-Plait and Photo-Hall catalogs in 1922 and 1923, and was still available in 1931 under the Zeiss Ikon brand. The shutter and lens followed technological advancements. In 1922, the offered version had variable focus. The version shown here does not, indicating it is either a lower-end model or an earlier version.
