Chronology of cameras Altheimer and Baer
The activity period and main business of Altheimer & Baer, Inc. are unclear. It is known that in 1949, Altheimer & Baer filed a trademark application for drills (All-Timer).
According to various documents available online, their address was 404 North Wells St., Chicago 10, which places them in downtown Chicago. During the 1940s, devices manufactured by Galter were released from this area, sold or distributed under a multitude of different names. However, the manufacturer of this specific model is not Galter, as indicated by an inscription inside the door: "Made in USA James Marlyn Co."
A similar model, also manufactured by James Marlyn Co., exists under the Five Star Camera Co. brand. It is called the Five Star.
James Marlyn Co. did not sell cameras under its own name. An official announcement in the U.S. price index from 1946 confirms this and provides the maximum selling price of the cameras to wholesalers, semi-wholesalers, and retailers.
There are many similarities between James Marlyn Co.'s cameras and those of Galter, especially in the shape of the lens tube and the front plate with its two fixing rivets. The lens does not bear the name "Graf" like it does in Galter cameras, but it's possible that James Marlyn Co. subcontracted the manufacture of this part of the cameras to Galter.
