The brand Altic was registered by 3 Suisses, a mail-order sales group similar to La Redoute, in 1961. The registration has been renewed several times since (No. 1709314). This brand is applied to various items, sometimes of poor quality, often given as gifts to customers. Occasionally, one of these gifts could be complemented with a paid item, such as a flash for a camera.

The Diana No. 151 has been used countless times as an advertising medium. This model carries the Altic brand, which is engraved around the lens and on a small metal plate inserted at the top of the hood, above the viewfinder.
This particular specimen is calibrated in feet, which is unusual for use in France.
La société qui fabriqua cet appareil était basée à Hong Kong (colonie anglaise), mais fabriquait aussi à Macao (colonie portugaise). Ses appareils à très bas coût étaient exportés vers les Etats-Unis et l'Europe où ils devenaient la plupart du temps des cadeaux promotionnels. Le plus fameux de cette production fut le Diana qui par antonomase donne son nom à ce type d'appareil. Great Wall Plastic Factory fabriqua des dizaines de modèles différents, et en multiplia le nombre en en changeant simplement le nom. Certains ont ce qui ressemble à un numéro de référence.
Fabriqués entièrement en plastique, y compris la lentille, ils présentent beaucoup de défauts de fabrication. Les parties mobiles comme le dos, s'encastrent souvent mal dans le reste de l'appareil, générant des fuites de lumière. Le défilement du film est parfois irrégulier. L'objectif donne de mauvais résultats, fait de flous, d'abérrations, de déformations etc.
Les résultats sont inattendus. Il n'en fallait pas moins pour créer un phénomène de mode au cours des années 90, à tel point que la société Lomography en fabriqua des copies modernes au cours des années 2000 et se mit à vendre des appareils qu'on trouvait quelques années auparavant pour quelques francs sur toutes les brocantes. A noter que le dépôt du nom Diana par Lomography fut refusé par l'USPTO (office américain des brevets et des marques), car celui-ci jugea que le nom était utilisé de façon générique pour un certain type d'appareils et ne pouvait s'appliquer comme marque.
