Chronology of cameras Clarus
The Clarus company of Minneapolis only built one model of camera, and it proved fatal to the company, leading to bankruptcy. Despite being well-constructed, sturdy (and heavy), the camera, the MS-35, suffered from a structural defect in its shutter. Frequent returns to the repair shop tarnished the brand's reputation, and they ceased all photographic activities in 1952. Cameras encountered today are generally broken.
The MS-35 is a 24 x 36 rangefinder camera with an interchangeable lens and a curtain shutter. Despite its short and chaotic career, there are three successive versions of the MS-35.
The first is recognizable by an accessory shoe welded to the top. A round opening on the top, covered by a cap, allows access to the rangefinder adjustment. On the second version, this access is removed. The accessory shoe on the third third version is screwed onto the top.
