Le 1600 F s'appelle ainsi parce que son obturateur atteint la vitesse de 1/1600ème de seconde. Ce fut aussi le premier reflex mono-objectif (à objectif interchangeable) a avoir un dos magasin qui pouvait être changé en cours de film.
Cet appareil eut une longue et belle descendance.
Il sera remplacé en 1953 par le 1000 F, plus fiable.
