Chronology of cameras Hermagis

The Hermagis Stéréomultiple is the adaptation of the Universal Camera to stereoscopic format. The whole rear part of the camera is equipped with a focal plane shutter. The lensboard supports two lenses, but it is possible to use other boards with only one of the two lenses to obtain a panoramic view. It is also possible to use alternatively one and then the other to obtain two different pictures in the original format. It is also possible to double the lenses and obtain tele (singular or stereoscopic) views.

The Stéréomultiple was available in formats 9 x 12, 9 x 14, 11 x 15 or 13 x 18. The photos obtained by using both lenses simultaneously, one after the other, or just one will have different sizes.

The shutter speed depends on the combination of the width of the curtain slit and the tension of the lower roller. For the 9 x 12 and 9 x 14 formats, the slit can be from 5 mm to 9 cm; for the 11 x 15, it is 11 cm; for the 13 x 18, it is 13 cm. The lenses mounted on the Stéréomultiple are Aplanastigmats f/6.8.

This specimen is for 9 x 14 cm format. The body is made of mahogany covered by Morocco leather. The focal plane shutter is a Mattioli which corresponds to the one described in the Hermagis catalogues of the 1910s. The lenses are a pair of Hermagis Aplanastigmat Nº9 bis with a focal length of 95 mm and a maximum aperture of 6.8. The camera is equipped with several lensboards, a stereoscopic septum and an additional lens (Hermagis Aplanastigmat F=125mm f6.8) in order to produce all possible views as described in the catalogues.
