Chronology of cameras Ricoh

Gokoku means protector of the country.

This camera was nearly being called Riken No1 but in 1939 the patriotic names are fashionable in Riken and after a long gestation period, it was under this name of Gokoku No1 that the unit is eventually put on the market. The logo engraved on the top of the camera has benefited a particular graphic research.

This is the first focal plane shutter from Riken . The appearance is based on the Leica's shape but the camera uses 127 film taking 3 x 4 cm pictures and the dummy rewind button is to strengthen the reference to the German camera. Besides its mimetic function it also serves to release the supply reel. This button will disappear on its successor the Ricohl Mod 1.

The main problems with this camera is the driving of the counter and the auto-stop film advance with a film without perforation. Various modifications have been made during the lifetime of the camera. The model shown includes an insert to press the film along the entire height of the drive roller but it involves slipping the film between these two parts which complicates charging.

There are several versions of the camera , one with interchangeable lenses but all have the same name .
