Chronology of cameras Ihagee

The Exakta cameras are distinctive German cameras with an unmistakable style. They are built to last, as sturdy as tanks, and almost as heavy.

They were the first single-lens reflex (SLR) cameras with cloth shutter curtains and compact in size. When viewed from above, they have a trapezoidal shape. Manufactured in Germany, they survived through the Second World War. After the war, production resumed in Dresden, which was then in the Soviet-occupied zone, later becoming East Germany (GDR). Production ceased in 1970 with the VX 500.
Throughout their existence, the Exakta series underwent various changes in shape, design, and technical specifications, but they always remained true to their original spirit. An ultimate model was named the Exakta RTL 1000, but it was a model produced in the state-owned Pentacon factory and had no relation to the other Exakta cameras.
The Exakta name was also used for 6x6 format models.

This classification is based on "Exakta Cameras 1933-1978" by Aguila and Rouah, Hove Collectors Books.

__________

From August 1967 to December 1970, the state company VEB Pentacon in Dresden (GDR), continues to produce the ExaktaVX 1000.
From June 1969 to December 1970, some Exakta VX 1000, for export to the West, have a front plate without the name EXAKTA. This plate bears only the VX 1000 designation embossed on black background. No engraving VX 1000 does appear on the right side of the chromium plated front plate (near the trigger).

At the same time, other Exakta VX 1000 are showing a black plate where the name ELBAFLEX is embossed.

Most of the Ihagee engineers have moved to the west side, where some have tried to resume production by creating and marketing the Exakta Real (900 units produced). Numerous brand property trials filedagainst VEB Pentacon prohibit the designation EXAKTA for cameras intended to be sold in western Europe countries. The company VEB Pentacon then uses the name ELBAFLEX to signify that they are made at the edge of the Elbe river that flows through the city of Dresden. The top cover is engraved aus DRESDEN.
There are two versions of Elbaflex, the first with the rewind  indicator silver and red, the second  is black and white . The model presented is a first variation.

The Elbaflex being identical to the Exakta VX1000, it has all the same features and uses the same accessories and lenses.
