Chronology of cameras Ricoh
Chronologiquement placé entre les Auto Half zone-focus et Auto-Half E, le Ricoh Auto Half S est une évolution importante de l'Auto Half.
Le déclencheur prend sa place définitive sur le dessus du capot, le boîtier prend quelques millimètres d'épaisseur et le mécanisme de fermeture du dos est modifié.
La volonté était de proposer un modèle avec retardateur ( Chez Ricoh les modèles comportant un S dans leur nom sont très souvent des modèles comportant un "Self timer").
Selon le site web historique de Ricoh, l'Auto Half n'avait pas été étudié pour permettre l'adjonction d'un tel dispositif et il s'en est suivi les modifications sus-dites.
Le site web de Ricoh nous apprend également que l'optique fabriquée par Tomioka avait été conçue par Ricoh et qu'elle est réglée pour une utilisation optimale à deux mètres cinquante.
Le S majuscule en caractère cursif gravé sur le dessus est souvent pris pour un P.
