Le GX200 vise la clientèle des photographes exigeants, mais ne voulant pas s'encombrer d'un reflex. Pour cela, il possède un très bon zoom pour lequel les focales courtes et trans-standard ont été privilégiées et dont, la luminosité est très bonne.
L'écran remplissant tout l'arrière, il n'y a plus de place pour insérer un viseur, c'est pour cela qu'un viseur électronique est proposé en option. Il s'insère dans la griffe porte-accessoire. Il n'est donc pas possible de l'utiliser en même temps qu'un flash, l'appareil étant dépourvu d'un flash intégré.
Le mode d'exposition manuel de ce modèle est réellement utilisable ; deux molettes séparées permettent de régler vitesse et ouverture.
