The Pentax MV was the entry-level body of the MX and ME series. It was stripped of everything that is not essential to the shooting: flash synch PC, depth of field tester, delayed action timer, shutter speed dial, and exposure lock!
It is an automatic exposure only body with aperture priority, which allows the removal of the speed dial as mentioned above. Instead, there is a selector with three positions: Auto, 100x and B.
When the camera is set to Auto and the shutter release is pressed halfway, a color LED gets lit in the viewfinder. If the green light is shown then the selected aperture allows the meter to select a shutter speed within the limits of linkage. If it's red, there is overexposure. The yellow color indicates a speed lower than 1/30 sec, as a warning for the risk of camera shake.
The exact speed selected by the meter remains unknown to the user.
Without a battery, the camera can still be used on all three positions, except that the Auto position selects a fast speed (hundredths/sec - I read somewhere 1/1000, but this doesn't seems plausible).
Because it lacks an exposure lock, the body has a concealed exposure compensation setting. It's hidden around the rewind crank and under the film sensitivity setting. To get there, you pull the handle to the first notch. WARNING, the second click opens the back. Under the handle is a dial with a plus and a minus, which can be used to shift the sensitivity.
The accessory shoe has a second contact for special linkage to the Pentax AF 200S flash.
This body cannot receive any winder and the back is not interchangeable.
