Chronology of cameras Canon
The Canon VT was produced from April 1956 to February 1957, with a total of 15,575 units made (serial numbers ranging from 500,010 to 540,000). The model name is engraved on the front face.
The design of this model is new, departing from the IV Sb2. The top of the camera is flat over a wide area.
It was the first of Canon's compact cameras to offer back loading, which is simpler than bottom loading, as seen in Leica cameras.
The film advance is done with a trigger located under the camera, making it faster than the wheels on previous models. The "T" in VT refers to this trigger (T for Trigger). It is still possible to advance the film using a wheel.
The shutter remains the same as that of the IV Sb2, allowing for fast speeds from 1/30 to 1/1000. The slower speeds, from one second to 1/30, along with the T setting and the sync speed (between 1/15 and 1/30), are on a separate dial located on the front face. There is a bayonet side sync flash socket for UNIT V flash.
It is the first Canon model to have a viewfinder for two focal lengths: 35mm and 50mm. A dial allows you to choose the focal length and, if necessary, use the focusing magnifier. The new viewfinder is very wide.
There is automatic parallax correction for accessories used in the shoe.
This was the first of the "new Canon" models and introduced a new range of lenses. Impressive! The standard lenses are 1.2/50, 1.5/50, 1.8/50, or 1.8/35, 2.8/35mm.
