Chronology of cameras Chinon

Perhaps running out of ideas, Chinon adopted a new naming convention for its models starting in 1986. These are now called "Auto," followed by a number ending in 1.
All of these are motorized compact cameras with autofocus and flash. They differ in their lenses and the presence of an automatic framing system.

The first models in this new series still have a design very similar to the last Chinon 35 models, with angular shapes and a flash dependent on the protection cover. The subsequent models become more rounded, following the trend of the time.

In parallel with this series, Chinon marketed a series of simpler cameras whose names start with Auto GL.

Externally, the Chinon Auto 3501 is similar to the Auto 4001, but technically it is a simpler version of it. It does not have the multi-beam autofocus, nor the possibility of managing the flash for backlighting. It lacks the automatic zoom function according to the focal length, called Auto Zoom Composition.
