Chronology of cameras Butcher
The Carbine series was produced by W. Butcher & Sons Ltd. from around 1903 to 1930. During this period, numerous variations were manufactured. These were high-quality cameras made in Germany, also adaptable to plates.
Model No. 4 was equipped with various combinations of lenses and shutters. In this example, the lens is a Beck Primus. The shutter is a Bausch & Lomb Unicum. It features a metric scale on the right for adjusting the focusing distance and a lever system on the left to lock it on the rail. The lens can be vertically and horizontally decentered.
As indicated in a white circle, the seller was The Allied Camera Company.
The advertisement published in the Australian Photographic Review on August 21, 1903, reveals that this version of the Primus Roll was available for sale at that time. It also appears in the book: "Photography with Roll Films - The Primus... W. Butcher & Sons" from 1903.
