Chronology of cameras Bencini
The Comet S were released in 1950, and were manufactured for several years. They stand out from the Comet, by adding a synchro socket for flash and an accessory shoe. Like their predecessor, these are low-end cameras, made from die-cast aluminum. The performances are poor, but their cost being low, they easily find their customers in post-war Italy. All-metal fabrication gives buyers confidence.
These 3 x 4 cm have undergone minor modifications during their career. These are essentially aesthetic, with the exception of modifications affecting the first models, the foundry mold of which does not include the accessory label. These models also have a double inscription of the mark: on a plate fixed on the top housing, and on the front. The film advance button has two rows of stripes. A black bezel surrounds the base of the rotating part of the lens.
The evolving models will lose the marking on the front face, replaced by a series of ridges improving the grip, as well as the strap attachments, and the black hubcap on the lens. There is a clear search for simplification of manufacture. The most recent models incorporate plastic.

Let's take a closer look at this copy. The model name is engraved on the top, as well as the initials CMF (Costruzioni Mecchaniche Fotografiche or Mechanical Photographic Constructions ) which is the former name of the brand. Bencini Milano is inscribed at the bottom of the accessory label. Another plaque on the back, between the two inactinic glances, tells us about Bencini Comet Made in Italy. Another Made in Italy mention existing to the right of the viewfinder eyecup, we cannot say that we do not know where the Comet S was manufactured!
