The Powershot A75 succeeds the A70 and A60. It uses the same sensor as the A70. The metal body is gone, replaced by plastics. The layout of the controls is similar to that of the A70.
What changes compared to previous models is the addition of additional modes and new electronics. The goal is to offer a mainstream camera at an affordable price, but still competitive in the market. This is why Canon retains the more expensive components to change, such as the zoom and sensor, and modifies the scene programs; this is cost-effective but pleases non-photographer users. The additional cost of the modifications is likely offset by the transition from metal to plastic.
While the general public is indeed the target audience, the amateur can still manually manage, if desired, the aperture, shutter speed, and white balance.
