Chronology of cameras Comptoir Photographique du Pont de Fer
Charles Conquérant presented himself as a camera manufacturer (SGDG). He was first located at 86 Boulevard de Magenta, then at 14 Boulevard Poissonnière, both in Paris. It is at this second address that one finds the Comptoir Photographique du Pont de Fer. The reason for the name "Pont de Fer" is unclear.
In 1894, Conquérant, then located at Boulevard de Magenta, registered his brand in the shape of the Cross of Lorraine (Lorraine and Alsace have been German since 1871), as well as the brand name "The Conqueror" (Conquérant... Conqueror).
__________
This camera, with very compact dimensions, is extremely lightweight and impeccably crafted, entirely covered in morocco leather. It is equipped with an excellent extra-fast rectilinear lens with pull-out diaphragms for views, groups, portraits, and snapshots. The optional focusing starts from 3 meters. Additionally, it features two clear viewfinders, a permanently cocked shutter that does not expose the plate, allowing for both posed and instantaneous shots, and an automatic counter indicating the number of plates used. It also has two congress-threaded nuts, allowing it to be mounted on a tripod in both orientations. The fittings are nickel-plated.
Price of the 9x12 camera: 55 francs for 12 plates.
— Stereoscopic: 125 francs for 12 plates.
(according to the 1898 Annuaire Général de la Photographie)
