Chronology of cameras Kowa
In 1968, in order to position themselves in the market for medium format SLR (Single Lens Reflex), the company Kowa Co. Ltd. launches the Kowa Six (written Kowa / SIX on the camera). A complete system is created around this camera. It could interest many professional photographers, who can then find a more affordable working tool than those offered by some prestigious brands such as Hasselblad.
The Kowa Six is a SLR with interchangeable lenses; the standard lens is a 85 mm opening to 2.8. The body does not contain the shutter; it is in the lens as well as the self timer, the depth of field test and the setting the flash sync (X or M) with the contact pin.
The back that will receive an interchangeable magazine on the later models (Kowa Six II), has a film pressing system to ensure a perfect flatness. This film press must be reversed depending on which rollfilm are used; 120 (12 views), 220 (24 views). A button on the side allows you to adjust the frame counter accordingly .
The Kowa Six system includes, in addition to the body, the following components:
- 9 lenses, from the 19mm Fish-eye to the 500mm telephoto,
- 6 viewfinder accessories, the standard being the waist level viewfinder,
- 4 ground glasses,
- Three extension tubes and an adapter for a microscope,
- 2 types of handle and a quick attachment for tripod,
- 1 set of filters.
The Kowa Six was also available in black; it will be replaced by the Six II and Six MM which will be replaced by the Six Super 66.
With a handle and loaded with a 220 film for 24 exposures the Kowa Six allow you to play in the big leagues.
