Chronology of cameras OIP

André CallierThe OIP (Société Belge d'Optique et d'Instruments de Précision) was founded in Ghent, Belgium, in 1918, by André Callier (1877-1938).

Despite not having an engineering degree, Callier was an authority in the field of optics ever since he discovered an optical phenomenon in 1909, which became known as the "Callier Effect."
OIP manufactured renowned lenses and optical instruments. In 1930, the range of lenses was expanded to include Miror (Tessar), Major, Labor (Cooke Triplet), and Melior (projection). It's worth noting that around the same time, the name "Major" was also used by Hermagis for one of their lenses.
OIP sold cameras, likely manufactured in Germany (Welta, Certo, Zeh, etc.), and assembled them with OIP lenses in Ghent.

On February 5, 1934, the Ghent factories were destroyed by a fire. They were modernized during the reconstruction. During World War II, until 1942, the factories were transferred to Roanne, France. Since the war, the company primarily focused on military applications.

__________

A priori, this Nivax model is the last variant in chronological order. OIP keeps the same name but the design evolves due to a change of manufacturer. Even if the manufacture is metallic, the term "Tropique" given to the previous model disappears.
The distance adjustment is no longer performed by a gear wheel and a pinion, but by a radial lever located on the foreground of the baseboard. The shape of the struts, and that of the front frame of the viewfinder also differ from what they were on the previous model.
This Nivax model is available with or without delayed action device.
