Chronology of cameras Chinon
The Chinon CE-5 is one of the first SLR cameras to offer autofocus, provided you use a lens from the brand that integrates the infrared autofocus system. It's still possible to use manual focus lenses in Pentax K mount.
To achieve this, Chinon modified the Chinon CE-4s by adding electrical contacts on the front for coupling with the new autofocus lenses. A green LED was also added in the viewfinder to indicate correct focus.
Chinon offered two autofocus lenses:
- 1.7/50 mm Auto Chinon MC F
- 3.3-4.4/35-70 mm Auto Chinon MC
The camera body could be equipped with a motor drive and a date back.
In France, Chinon SLR cameras are less known and less common than those of other Japanese brands. This might be due to the brand's late arrival in the market and a delay in gaining recognition. However, Chinon regularly released new models from the early 70s until the late 80s, with a very good level of quality, ensuring full compatibility with M42 and later K mount lenses, at a very attractive price.
