Le Chinon CP-5 Twin Program features automatic exposure with aperture priority and two program modes, hence its name.
These two program modes are simply labeled P1 and P2:

- P1 prioritizes fast shutter speeds for moving subjects.
- P2 prioritizes depth of field.

An advantage is that these modes work with any K-mount lens.

The aperture priority automation also has its own unique feature. The shutter speed display in the viewfinder is coupled with the illumination of a small diode located in front of each shutter speed number. This diode is red, yellow, green, or red depending on whether you are in a risk zone for camera shake or under/overexposure.

In manual mode, selecting the shutter speed is done by pressing a single button to increase the speed or the same button while holding down the shutter release button to decrease it. The diode next to the chosen shutter speed blinks while the one next to the speed chosen by the automation remains steadily lit. This allows for "semi-auto" operation as well.

The use of the self-timer is indicated by an audible and visual signal that beeps and blinks twice per second during the first eight seconds and then faster during the last two seconds before triggering.

The self-timer selector has an intermediate position that activates the audible signal. This signal can:

- Beep in program mode for speeds slower than 1/60 or in case of overexposure,
- Beep in manual mode when changing speeds; it also emits a different beep when the exposure setting (by selecting speed or aperture) matches the exposure recommended by the automation,
- Beep during B exposure,
- Beep when autonomous autofocus lenses have focused.

This model can be motorized with the PW-600 and PW-610 motors. The back can be replaced with the Infoback (DB-010) or Infoback-2 (DP-550) and Auto-date (AD-510).

In conclusion, it is a comprehensive camera that, oddly enough, did not seem to find its market in France.

In France, Chinon SLR cameras are less known and less common than those of other Japanese brands. This might be due to the brand's late arrival in the market and a delay in gaining recognition. However, Chinon regularly released new models from the early 70s until the late 80s, with a very good level of quality, ensuring full compatibility with M42 and later K mount lenses, at a very attractive price.
