Chronology of cameras Boots
Boots is a pharmacy chain with a history of more than a century. Quickly, pharmacists with the necessary chemistry skills for photo preparation and development started selling everything related to photography, including cameras.
It was only in the mid-20th century that the photographic activity gained independence at Boots. As Boots is not a manufacturer, it simply placed its name on cameras from other brands. This practice is well known.
There is no labeling on this camera that allows it to be identified as a Bencini original. The only clue pointing to this manufacturer is the "Italy" mention and the fact that there are similar cameras produced by this Italian brand.
For the most part, everything is said or almost said with 126 X. It is a camera that uses 126 format cartridges, which were very popular in the 1970s, and the "X" indicates the use of a Magicube flash.
The shutter is armed, and film transport is achieved by operating a lever located on the back. A hook on the base allows the attachment of a wrist strap.
Magicube
The name Magicube was trademarked by Sylvania in 1970. The Magicube follows the general principle of the Flashcube but has the advantage of not requiring an electrical power source to be ignited.
In the early 1970s, Sylvania filed several patents for percussion-ignited bulbs that could be lit through chemical reactions among the elements contained inside the bulb. It only remained to package them in a plastic cube.
The Magicube is slightly larger than the Flashcube. To avoid any confusion, the shape of the part that inserts into the camera is different between the two models.
