Chronology of cameras Fujica

Traduction de Alphonse Khuu

The Fujica GER is a very light and very compact rangefinder, which will take place easily in your pocket, especially as the mercury battery that originally used may be replaced by an alkaline battery PC640A. Its lens 2.8/38mm, 4 elements in 3 groups provides an excellent catch-all compromise between a true wide-angle and a standard lens. Its minimum focusing from 90cms and its angle will solve the most common situations.

Automatic Exposure

Its A setting (ring around the lens) provides a fully automatism (with the exception of the focus, which then is not yet automatic). The Cds cell, whose window is visible in front of the lens, ensures an automatic adjustment from 4 seconds at f/2.8 up to 1/800 per sec at f/13 for a sensitivity of 100 asa. The cell controls the Seiko ESB electronic shutter, which provides shutter speeds from 4 seconds to 1/800 per sec. The shutter/aperture is made by two blades in shaped-V with curved edges. With the release, the shape of the hole is variable depending on the value of the aperture. It is a circle (aperture at 2.8 from 4 seconds to 1/30) to a square with the curved edges in decreasing sizes from f/2.8 to f/13. Once the exposure time is reached the two shutter blades close. All this is controlled by innovative electronics, which has the merit of reducing the number of moving parts. In the viewfinder, when the pressure on the shutter button is, an orange LED (on the right) briefly lights up, indicating that everything is ready for a good shot. If this LED remains illuminated, it means that the shutter speed will be slow, too slow for a photo without a flash or tripod. The slower shutter speeds are below the 1/30 per sec.
It can store an exposure value by maintaining pressure on the shutter button.

Using the flash

Whatever the used flash, we must indicate the number of guide of this one (NG) on the ring of the lens, the closest one from the body (featuring in meters and feet). The synchronization shutter speed is the 1/30 per sec. There is then coupling with the aperture and the focusing distance. Fuji called it the "Flashmatic Fuji." The use of the Fujicolor Strobo S flash features an interesting function. It has a blinking LED of power charge UNDER near the hot shoe. On the camera body front of the hot shoe, near the battery test LED, near the exposure LED, and near shutter speed reminder, is located a tiny window. When the Strobo S flash is inserted in the hot shoe, the blinking light of the flash is facing this small window. A periscope sends back the blinking light in the viewfinder just behind the flash symbol. It is possible, when the A setting is engaged, to compose, adjust the distance, check the charge of flash without leaving the eye from the viewfinder.

Battery test

Just slightly depress the release button when the A position is initiated. A red LED in front of the hot shoe lights (and even the orange LED inside the viewfinder). Without battery, it is not possible to use this camera. The wind lever is used as a switch.

The view

Rangefinder and frame lines. The frame lines represent the infinity and the other lines match with a distance of 1.5m. The viewfinder is very slightly purple. The window rangefinder is yellow.

The GER has a little brother, the GE without rangefinder.
