Chronology of cameras Canon
Starting from the late 1950s, Canon expanded its range of rangefinder cameras by manufacturing a new type of camera, the single-lens reflex (SLR), which had previously been overlooked by the brand. Demand grew worldwide, whether from professionals or amateurs. However, Canon had to produce multiple models before offering one that could compete with the leading professional market model, the Nikon F.

__________Compared to other contemporary models within the brand, the shutter is simplified as it does not offer slow speeds.
For exposure, it operates on the same principle as its siblings AE-1 or A-1: Automatic, semi-automatic, or manual.
It is powered by 2 1.5-volt batteries placed in the ergonomic grip, which ensures a good grip.
The particularity of this camera is its focusing aid system called "Quick Focus." It is not yet autofocus, which would have to wait another 3 years. Focus is correct as soon as the central, green diode lights up. Two other red diodes indicate the correction to be made to the focus. The arrow-shaped diode indicates the direction in which to turn the lens.
The technical principle of this assistance involves a transparent main mirror, so that some of the light passing through it is reflected by a second mirror, hidden behind the main one, towards three CCD sensors. A microcomputer measures the contrast on the sensors and after calculation gives instructions to the indication diodes.
The principle is simple and reliable, yet this model did not achieve great success.
