Chronology of cameras Leica
Traduction de Christian Surle.
MDa-POST came after MD-POST.
At the end of 1977, it will be followed by very rare black MD-2-POST’s “Made in Canada”, fitted with f: 2/35 mm and 5.6 fixed aperture.
Nobody knows the silent partner of these cameras.
In fact, two models were manufactured in accordance with the contracts (as for MD-POST):
A “classical” one for 24 x 36 mm format
A “special” one for 24 x 27 mm format
These are the common characteristics of both models:
MDa :
- Simplified version of M4, with no viewfinder, telemeter, frame selection nor self-timer; specially designed for scientific use.
- M3-like film transport
- Bent folding rewind crank
- Half back opening after removing the bottom shoe. Reminder of film used on back.
- Cloth shutter working from 1 sec to 1/1000° + B.
MDa-POST :
- Speed selection knob fixed by a screw near “B” setting, on flash sync speed
- Matt black metal frame, with two positioning spurs on each side of the lens
- Fixed release that can only operated with a flexible
- X flash sync only. M sync (of the MDa) has disappeared and its hole is closed by a screwed silver cap
- A black/silver metal sticker marked “POST 19XX” is stuck on the bottom shoe; it is a typical sign of German mail service.
- Special f: 2.8/35 mm SUMMARON lens, without focusing, a screw locking the aperture on f: 4 in most cases, but sometimes on f: 2.8. These lenses are always marked “Post” or “Post III-100” (for 1 cm extension)
- These bodies are marked “POST” in yellow-framed letters, in vertical position on the left of the body. This is a typical mark of all the German mail service MDa’s.
