Chronology of cameras Minolta
The classification used here is adapted from those of Wolfgang Huller , which is based upon the data from the Minolta Manual Focus Collector's Society.
In July 1955 a version of the Minolta 35 Model II (type a2) with a renovated aesthetic is released. On the front, it is immediately apparent that the metal edges of the hood and the sole are double height of the previous, passing partially under the front plate supporting the lens.
The hood also shows a modified form: the cutout of the boss surrounding the speed selector is less nervous and leaves more space for the hot shoe. The rewind button, whose height is reduced, now overcomes a rounded "sidewalk". The speed selector itself has a much lower knurled flange. Finally, the engraving on the hood is the mark in extenso: "Chiyoda Kogaku".
To go with this refreshing, a new lens, brighter, was proposed as a standard: a 2.0 / 5 cm alternative to the 2.8 / 5 cm or the traditional but proven 2.8 / 45 mm. In the case of an original mount with a 50 mm, the viewfinder was adapted to the narrower field, and we notice in this case that the viewfinder window on the front is reduced: all the surround is wider by 1 mm
Beyond the visual appearance, the technical characteristics of the 35 Model II (type b1) are identical to those of the 35 Model II (type a2).
The distribution (type b1) / (type b2) is balanced: there were about 16,000 copies of each type, and it is by far the most common version of all Minolta 35. It may also be one of the most finished, precedent the excellent 35 IIB however more rare. In all cases a very good device of use.
