Chronology of cameras Zeiss Ikon
It is exactly similar to the Contax IIa, except that in addition it features an uncoupled selenium exposure meter on the top cover.
Quite coherently, when, for export, distances are marked in feet and not meters on the distance setting ring, then the film sensitivity on the exposure meter setting ring is marked in ASA and no longer in DIN.
Compared to the pre-war versions, the layout and size of the viewfinder windows are changed.
Better than a long speech, here is the description of the different parts of the Contax IIIa, taken from its manual.
And a view of its exposure meter and of the setting controls
Shown here with a 21 mm 1/4.5 Biogon lens specially made for it (a version for the Contarex also exists) as well as with the turret viewfinder dedicated to this lens (Contax reference n°440). This lens was a small revolution at the time: it was the first 21mm correctly controlled and featuring a respectable maximum aperture of f/4.5. Leitz will take 4 years before marketing the Super Angulon manufactured by Schneider. Built around 7000 copies, its price reserved it for very wealthy customers.
