Chronology of cameras Zeiss Ikon
Released in 1936, to do better than Leitz and its Leica!
It has a huge 90mm rangefinder base. Its standard lens was a 1.5 / 50mm Sonnar.
The Contax II is the successor of the Contax I, it features a vertical curtain shutter at 1/1250 and a x0.75 magnification viewfinder coupled with the rangefinder on a single finder.
This camera was 20 years ahead of the Leica M3.
The camera back opens completely to allow film loading, and is closed by the mean of two keys. Hence, loading is not done via the camera sole as with the Leica.
Production continued until 1944. At the end of WWII, it was used by the Russians to make the Kiev 4 of it.
In 1946, a few rare models came out from the ZEISS factory in Jena.
