Chronology of cameras Hermagis
The Hermo-Cady (often simply called Cady) first appeared in Hermagis' 1931 catalog. It seems to replace the XR model. Undoubtedly, its manufacturing is German, and the shape of the bellows resembles that of Wirgin cameras, such as the Auta. Following a well-established principle among many distributors, they purchased nearly complete cameras on which they merely added their name and a French lens (since Hermagis was a lens manufacturer, this was easier). This practice still exists, with distributors receiving crates of cameras from China already bearing their brand and logo. Progress cannot be stopped.
As a result, one gets the impression of regularly seeing this Hermo-Cady whenever interested in 1930s folding cameras. Confusion may arise with the Gallus Cady. The typography differs between the two models, with Gallus using only uppercase letters for the embossed word in the covering.
The shape of the bellows and their mechanism allow for almost complete deployment by simply pressing the opening button located on the side of the camera.
The lens is a Hermagis anastigmat Major 4.5/105 mm. Focus is achieved by rotating the front lens. The shutter is a Pronto S (with a self-timer). There are variations with other shutters.
