Chronology of cameras Huttig
Huttig merged with several other brands in 1909 to form ICA AG, this is why we find the model name "Ideal" under several brands. This is also what allows to date this model before 1909.
This Ideal is a very well made folding plate camera. Little columns unveiled during a vertical shift, are adding to to its thinness. The metal parts are nicely nickel plated, such as the rail of the double extension bellows. The lens block is brass. The plate indicating the focus distance is ivory.
The bellows, red, is leather. Only beautiful materials !
The shutter is a Unicum offering the second to 1/100 plus B and T exposures. This shutter dates from 1897. It is characterized by its two cylinders placed on each side of the lens. One of them is the pneumatic actuator. the tip of which allows for the connection of a pneumatic bulb type trigger. In opposite, the other is the air brake for slow speeds. The shutter consists of two concave blades. They open when the shutter is released. The diaphragm, which has a separate setting (bottom scale), is located behind these two blades.
