This Montgomery Wards XP400 hides in fact a Konica EE-Matic without its rangefinder. The recess in the front of the cover on the left seems odd, but this is the place where the label plate "Konica" is located on the original model.
The selenium cell located around the lens, controls the exposure. In automatic mode, the photographer only has to adjust the distance.
