Chronology of cameras Ross

Ross began in 1904 to distribute strut folding cameras, which first were rebranded German cameras from several makers. It would only be in 1908 that Ross would make their strut folding camera, the Panros. The first was the Ross Focal Plane Camera, advertised in the Photographic Journal of the Royal Society in 1904.

The camera is a strut folding camera made by Ernemann in Dresden, fitted with a Ross Homocentric lens with a focal distance of 5 inches and a maximum aperture of 6.3.  The plate format is the imperial size 3 ¼ x 4 ¼ (quarter plate). It has a dual serial number, the one from the total Ernemann production (702), and the one concerning the production for Ross (R17).

The shutter is an early version of the Ernemann focal plane and delivers instantaneous speeds in the range 1/10 to 1/1000, plus time exposures.
