Chronology of cameras Houghton
The Houghton Planet is a double shutter hand and stand camera present in Houghton’s catalogues at least between 1906 and 1910. The camera is made of mahogany covered in leather, for 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 inch format.. The camera seems to be of German origin, most probably by Krügener, which provided many of the cameras present in Houghton's catalogues.
The focal plane shutter is a simple Anschütz with speeds controlled by a combination of slit width (adjusted on the curtain by a sliding piece) and variable helical tension, delivering speeds up to 1/1000 plus T. It has a rise and cross aluminium front fitted with a Bausch and Lomb Simplex automatic shutter and an unbranded f8 lens. The external viewfinder, not present in any catalogue, seems in this specimen not to be original but from a Kodak Brownie No.1.
