Chronology of cameras Ouyama - New Taiwan Photographic Corporation

In the mid-90s, we saw the emergence of cameras resembling single-lens reflex (SLR) cameras on all markets, whose names vaguely evoked major brands, or even counterfeited the name of an existing model (Canomatic). They were sold as kits, including a flash, sometimes a tripod, a carrying bag, or a briefcase, etc. They could be found on teleshopping sites, in markets... basically, places where serious quality cameras are not typically purchased. Their buyers, naive, quickly became disillusioned upon receiving their purchase. These cameras quickly received the generic name "Shitmatic," a contraction of "shit" and "matic" (Canomatic being the most emblematic representative of this category).

Their manufacturing is generally attributed to Ouyama, with production in China. On some models, it is indicated "Lens Made in Japan," with the word "Lens" to be understood as "lens" rather than as indicating the origin of manufacture.

Common characteristics

1 Two buttons to move the plastic thing that resembles a zoom. Useless. 6 Big plastic tube for putting batteries and scrap metal.
2 Shutter release. Film transport is motorized. 7 Direct viewfinder.
3 Chest viewfinder, whose upper part could almost be mistaken for a screen. 8 Piece of transparent plastic serving no purpose.
4 Flash connection that looks very professional. 9 "Focus Free" means that the focus is automatic, right?
5 Big torch flash looking very serious. Ineffective.. 10 At the very back, another piece of plastic is used as the lens (meniscus).
    11 Anti-red-eye system. Eye powder.
Some models have a timer or a remote control. On a few packaging, it is indicated that the viewfinder is in color!
The flash comes with an exposure table that serves no purpose since there are no aperture or speed settings on the camera. The table mentions f/2.8, whereas the brightest model of the camera opens at a maximum of f/4.5, but more commonly at f/6.3, yet it appears serious to have all these instructions.
While most encountered models are two-tone, silver and black, there are some with a golden part, and others entirely black.
