Chronology of cameras Elop
The Elop Elca II is the successor to the Elca, from which it borrows the general shape with a slight plumpness and a more classical mechanics. The Elca II is chrome-plated and partially covered with leatherette, while the Elca is nickel-plated with a granulated paint finish. Both cameras produce 50 shots of 24 x 24 mm on standard 35 mm film.
The shutter of this particular specimen is a Gauthier Prontor-S, ranging up to 1/300 of a second and equipped with a self-timer. There are variations of this model with a Gauthier Vario, with a speed of 1/200 of a second. The lens is an Elopan by Elop, opening at f/2.5, but versions with an Elocar lens opening at f/4.5 are also available, as on the original Elca.
The winding mechanism is on the shutter, and the film advance is on the top cover. There is still no rewind feature. It features a double shutter release, one on the edge of the shutter and the other on the top cover.
This Elca II is likely a late model as it has an accessory shoe like the 1951 Ucanett.
The Elca, Elca II, and Ucanett form a cohesive and elegant series.
