Chronology of cameras Bardin
Nothing gives the exact name of this magazine box model. However, it has some peculiarities:
The usual reflective mirrors of the viewfinders are replaced here by pieces of glass, completely opaque and curved, to reflect the image. They are mounted on a metal plate, itself mounted on a spring that positions it directly at the right angle. The front face, mounted on a hinge, opens to provide access to the lens and its sector diaphragm. The speed adjustment is also inside the cover.
The shutter resembles a guillotine. It needs to be cocked by pulling quite hard on what looks more like a button on the right side. To trigger, you must press the small button located just below the cocking lever.
The manufacturer's plate provides some information about this Office Central de Photographie since it also indicates E. Bardin and Co. It is not the name of a retailer because the address is indeed that of the Central Office.
Excerpt from Fabre's Encyclopedia related to painter's mirrors used as a viewfinder. (Fabre Supplement B 1897)
The Office Central de la Photographie, led by E. Bardin, published a monthly magazine for several years. This practice was quite common among Parisian retailers.
