Chronology of cameras Gaumont

Traduction de Manuel M

This camera is similar to that proposed by Photo-Hall as from 1921. In the catalog, the aperture passes from 6.8 on this date, to 6.3 in June 1922, to return to 6.8 in 1924! Photo-Plait also proposes it as from 1922, with Trylor-Roussel 6.3, and this until 1929, without variation of the aperture… Misprint gold not misprint? Does an aperture of 6.8 seem not very orthodox, but perhaps one day a specimen will reappear?

It is about a camera built out of metal, as its name indicates it, rather light for such a format: 820 grams with a glass-ground, but the rigid body makes it imposing.

The specimen shown here bears the number 6907, mounted with lens H. Roussel Paris Trylor series G 1:6.3 F=85 (mm, I suppose…) numbers 36047 and 36048.

The guillotine shutter regulates speeds from 0/P to 16/G (OP - 1 - 2 - 4 - 8 - 16G). It must be beforehand cocked by means of a pull knob on the top of the fronting, which one brings until the suitable mention.

Concerning the apertures, we have curious scales of diaphragm: 0.4 - 0.5 - 1 - 2 - 4 - 8 - 16, which must correspond to the notation of the Congress according to a Gaumont catalog of 1908.

The focusing is possible from a little less 2m ad infinitum (2 - 3 - 5 - 7 - infinite), and the two lenses are coupled by the higher bar. The other bar couples the apertures, which are engraved only on the lens of right-hand side (but on the left on the photograph!)

A threading with the step of the Congress is under the body of the camera.
