If it has a «A » in its name, it is that its innovation relates to the automatisms of exposure which it offers. For that, the bayonet is new and is called K-A; it is the K equipped with six electrical contacts. The objectives usable to profit from the multi-automatism are Pentax-A series. In short, A everywhere! However, the automatic mode with priority diaphragm is usable with the lenses in mounting K.
The Manual mode requires batteries all the same.
Among the other improvements of this very compact camera (like those of the series M, from which it follows from), there is a display with liquid crystals, in the viewfinder of all the parameters. This display can be illuminated. The camera is equipped with systems of measurement TTL: for the ambient light and the other for the flash. It has a tester of depth of field. Speeds are selected on the body by means of two small keys located between the prism and the shutter release.
Certain information is also displayed on a small screen ACL located on the camera close to the cocking lever.
