Chronology of cameras Argus

The Argus A-5 not only had a very short career, but it was also the last 35mm model made by Argus in its own factories. The subsequent models were merely products of other brands slightly modified to fit into the Argus lineup.

It was a simplification of the Argus Automatic 35, which was listed in the catalog during the same period. In this model, exposure was controlled automatically by a light meter. The few remaining settings were simplified, including the distance setting, which was of the "zone focus" type. On the back door, there was a chart providing equivalences between ambient weather conditions and an index to be set on the camera. These indices corresponded to different shutter speeds (5 indicated speeds from 2 to 6). The exposure control would adjust the aperture accordingly.

This camera was sold with its leather case and flash for 54.94 dollars.

It did not achieve great commercial success. The year it disappeared was also the year the venerable Argus C-3, present in the market for 30 years, was discontinued.
