Chronology of cameras Canon
The Ixus cameras are cameras that use APS film. The design of the first model and its extremely small size, comparable to that of a pack of cigarettes, were highly notable. Its meticulously crafted metal construction went against the prevailing trend in the market, which was dominated by plastic. Consequently, it was considered a high-end camera.
Canon diversified the series with cameras that were dissimilar, lacking the same characteristics or level of finishing. The common factor among them was the use of APS film.
The Ixus cameras remained on the market for a few years. They were successful, as between May 1996 and January 1999 (the release date of the IXUS II), over 2.2 million units were sold.
However, the APS debacle hastened the disappearance of these cameras. The advent of digital technology definitively ended the era of APS. Production of the films ceased in 2011.
Canon retained the name for its new digital compact cameras. In this case, the name is supplemented with the word "Digital."

Considered the smallest and lightest APS in September 1998, the Ixus M-1 was sold under the references Elph LT in America and Ixy 210 in Japan, priced at 23,500 yen in that country.
The Ixus M-1 allows shooting in three APS formats (Classic: 25.1 x 16.7 mm, Horizontal: 30.2 x 16.7 mm, Panoramic: 30.2 x 9.5 mm), with data recorded on the film's magnetic strip (in English, Information Exchange, which explains the prefix IX). It is equipped with a 23 mm wide-angle lens equivalent to a 29 mm focal length for 135 film. Multiple functions are offered, including dating, titling, and 5 flash modes, but the buttons are tiny, requiring the use of a stylus. A liquid crystal display on the top of the camera visualizes the operating mode. The opening of the lens cover activates the camera, and closing it turns it off. A tripod socket is available on the bottom, inside the film compartment cover.
The country of manufacture does not appear on the presented sample.
