Chronology of cameras Kodak
Compared to the model A, the model AB shows a big change in the lens/shutter assembly. This one becomes much more visible, and takes place in front of the lens plate that support it, while in the case of the model A, a wooden plate covered with leather did show the extremity of the lens only.
The Automatic shutter can be triggered either manually by a small lever or pneumatically. we may see on each side of the lens a cylinder. One of them has a tip to connect a tube and a trigger bulb. The other is an air brake, serving to control the speed.
The speed selector, almost round, is adorned with a beautiful flower engraving, which is reminiscent of a Japanese motif.
As often happening at this time, Kodak has screwed on front of the brass shutter, a curved aperture scale. If its black color makes it very readable, it appears that Kodak did not care about aesthetic considerations and that black plate degrades all of the shutter.
The Bausch & Lomb Automatic shutter is quite common on Kodak cameras of the time.
