Chronology of cameras Houghton
The Ful-Vue appeared just before World War II. It was an unconventional box camera as the typical small viewfinders were replaced by a single oversized viewfinder, occupying a large portion of its hood, hence its name Ful-Vue. It became a very popular camera because of its bright and easy-to-use viewfinder. The image reflector mirror was replaced with a chrome metal plate for economic and durability reasons.
After the war, around 1948/49, Ensign redesigned the camera adopting the Streamline design. This model is made of pressed sheet metal with a fairly complex shape. The unique and large viewfinder is housed in a rounded part, while the rest of the camera has an angular design. There is no focus adjustment; the Ensar lens can be set from 3m to infinity or from 1 to 3m. The options include bulb mode (Time) or instant speed (Inst.). The model was also produced in the colors of the Union Jack (Blue, White, Red) during the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. These commemorative and patriotic cameras were referred to by the English as Ful-Vue "A la mode" at that time.
The camera was redesigned again around 1953/54 to give it more of a TLR (Twin Lens Reflex) appearance. The front window of the viewfinder was brought to the same level as the lens and connected to it by a purely decorative metal part. The viewfinder is protected by a sunshade, increasing its resemblance to TLR cameras. The film format changed to 620. This Houghton Ful-Vue Super is available in grey, red or black.
The final iteration of the family was the Fulvueflex, released in 1957, shortly before Ensign ceased its operations.
Hormis la couleur bleu rappelant l'Union Jack, le modèle est identique à celui avec prise synchro-flash.
