Chronology of cameras Balda
The Baldax series consists of compact folding cameras. They come in 4.5 x 6 or 6 x 6 formats using 120 film. The new design of their struts makes it easier to open the flap.
The series offers numerous combinations of lenses and shutters and was prolific during the 1930s. The war brought an end to its production, but with the revival of the brand in West Germany, models once again bore this name.
During production, several modifications were made. There are two sizes for the body, with the possibility of a slightly larger version (model 0) to accommodate larger diameter shutters. The edges of the body on some models have a recess, while on others, the edge is straight. The viewfinder changed shape and position on the body multiple times.
The Baldaxette cameras are rangefinder models derived from the Baldax. The rangefinder is separate from the main viewfinder, and there is automatic parallax correction. The Baldaxette I is in the 4.5 x 6 format, while the II is in the 6 x 6 format.
The 1936 Baldaxette models, both I and II, can be identified by the covering on their hoods. Those from 1938, both I and II models, have a chrome-plated hood.
For each model, there are variations in lens and shutter combinations. Additionally, the model served as the basis for the Plaubel Roll-Op, which has a different rangefinder.
The presented specimen is damaged. The linkage seen on the left should not be separated from the shutter.
