Chronology of cameras Mamiya
This Mamiya is a camera from the series of modern rangefinders released at the very end of the 1950s, and similar to the Yashica Lynx, Mamiya 4B, and to some of the Rank-Mamiya or Tower of the same period.
The device, heavy in hand, is well built. The adjustment of the sensitivity of the film used is done using the front wheel. Aperture and speed are coupled and the exposure is determined by matching a small green needle with that of the light meter.
This version is a Ruby standard; so it is fitted with the Mamiya-Kominar lens, 48 mm opening to f 2 slightly less bright than some Mamiya-Sekor. This Mamiya-Kominar will end up as an alternative in some later models of the brand (e.g. the M3, released in May 1961 and even the Super-deluxe marketed in 1964).
The text of the Mc Keown guide that presents this Ruby Standard, mentions it with a Mamiya-Sekor even if the image associated shows it with the same Kominar opening to f 2 as the device presented here.
