The Snappy 50 was the first to be launched, followed closely by the Snappy 20. The two cameras look similar, but the 50 is a two-position autofocus, while the 20 is a standard fixed-focus.
Both models were designed for very simple use, and they are.
Film loading is automatic, as is advancing to the first frame. Winding is automatic, exposure is automatic, as is flash activation. At the end of the film, it automatically rewinds. The lens is protected by a cover, allowing the camera to be worn around the neck without needing a case.
The Snappy 20's lens consists of four lenses. The front three are glass, while the last one is plastic.
The Snappy 50 is slightly more efficient, but it's amusing to note that it was only available in gray/black, while the front of the Snappy 20 was available in five colors: black, red, yellow, blue, and white; as if quality could only be associated with austerity.
The design of the Snappy 20 and 50 is the subject of patent USD 271,880, published in 1983. Inventors are Nobushiro Agou and Mutsuhide Matsuda.
