Chronology of cameras Ernemann

The Ernemann Heag VI Zweiverschluss (double shutter) is one of the most elegant and exquisite cameras of the renowned Dresden camera maker. The materials and craftsmanship are of excellent quality and overall the camera is a beautiful but powerful photographic tool.

The Heag VI was produced between 1903 and 1925, for a range of plate formats and in progressively more advanced shutters and other features. This particular camera is from the first batch of the Heag VI, between 1903 and 1906. The case is made of quality wood covered by grained black painted leather. At the camera top a mark of Stöckig & Co indicates that the camera was sold by this Dresden dealer, although unlike other Ernemann cameras the front retains the name of the maker.

The focal plane shutter has controls for slit width (controlled externally by a knob but requiring observation of the slit internally, with a lateral scale) and spring tension. The table with speeds is written on the shutter curtain. The shutter trigger has a lock to prevent accidental exposure. The shutter delivers speeds between 1/25 and 1/2500 seconds. The Central shutter is a Ernemann pneumatic, two-blade return type, with speeds ranging from ½ to 1/100 and T.

The lens is a Hugo Meyer & Co Gorlitz Anastigmat with 180 mm of focal length and maximum aperture of 7.2. The lensboard is wide and has geared vertical and horizontal movements for perspective correction. The red leather bellows allow for the long double extension. Focusing is made by rack at the front and a pointer marks distances over a scale. The groundglass is mounted in a frame hinged for vertical opening and also has the typical Ernemann cross shadow. On the top there is a Newton folding finder.
