Si les Contax N constituaient une nouvelle série en rupture avec leurs prédecesseurs, il semble qu'ils préparaient l'arrivée de la version numérique, tant les caractéristiques en sont proches. Toutefois, la série N aura une très courte vie, puisque Kyocera, propriétaire de la marque, annoncera la disparition de celle-ci en 2005.
Le N1 est un bel appareil, solidement construit, avec un mode de mise au point mixte autofocus/manuel.
