Chronology of cameras Agfa
Before the Second World War (1936-1940), the use of molded materials such as bakelite and cégéite allowed camera manufacturers to break away from the typically rectangular shapes that were previously unavoidable in camera production. Even Agfa, a major manufacturer of folding and box cameras of all kinds, did not escape this trend.
The molded material used in this camera is called "Trolite", which is different from bakelite. The camera itself is named the "Trolix". Fortunately, camera manufacturers had more imagination than simply adding "Bakelite" to their camera names, or else we would have to collect a lot of "Bakelix" cameras!
In this particular camera, almost everything is made of molded material. The exceptions are the metal handle, a few metal adjustment buttons, the lens and the viewfinder.
It is likely the extreme use of molded material that makes it particularly difficult to find this pre-war camera in good condition. Even a minor impact can cause it to crack or break into small pieces.
