The evolution of this series was constant and regular. with many models every year. Some developments. such as the longest focal length. seem to be more of a marketing gimmick than a response to a need. IS means that the lens is stabilized. HS corresponds to a noise reduction system appearing with the DIGIC 5 processor. HS cameras are also stabilized.

__________
The S3 IS is the successor to the S2. The two cameras look very similar, and for good reason since they share many features. Therefore, if we limit ourselves to mentioning the differences, the maximum sensitivity of the S3 goes up to 800 ISO, and the sensor increases to 6 MP. The S3's rear screen is slightly larger than the S2's, but remains hopelessly tiny compared to the competition. Many compact cameras do better.
As for the electronic viewfinder, it's frankly not great. The move to 800 ISO was an unnecessary evolution given the poor results at this sensitivity.
The stabilization is appreciable given the maximum focal length of the 12x zoom. We'll ignore the 40x digital zoom... it's also useless, except to dream up buyers who don't need it.
