Si le Caplio R1 propose toujours un zoom dont la focale la plus courte est 28 mm, il permet aussi d'accéder à une focale maximale plus longue que ses prédécesseurs. Ici, on dispose d'une focale équivalente à 135 mm, ce qui en fait un compact très complet. Par rapport à ses concurrents, il affiche des temps de réponse et de démarrage plus performants.
La qualité de fabrication est évidente, même si on peut regretter que le dos soit en plastique et non métallique comme la face avant.
